CHINA CALLS FOR MASS VACCINATIONS TO FIGHT PIG DISEASE

The lack of even basic details coming out from the Chinese government is reviving longstanding questions about whether China is willing to share information about health and food safety issues with potentially global implications. As pig can catch many of the same diseases as people, including bird flu, the WHO and FAO maintain global networks to track and investigate unexplained patterns of pig deaths. Chinese wheat gluten containing melamine was blamed in a wave of pet deaths in the US in March. Hundred of cats and dogs suffered from kidney failure after eating tainted pet food.
